In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.
Ephesians 1:17
We are redeemed in the Lord through the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross and his resurrection from the dead to conquer sin and death in the earth for the glory of His name. There is nothing we can do to earn redemption. There is no special way we can act, there is no special word we can say. We cannot earn redemption through going to church, trying to live ‘the good life’, or going to camp. The power to save is solely on God’s shoulders. All of us come to the throne of grace broken. We have all fallen and every one of us is incapable of approaching God because of our sin. But God, in his infinite and indescribable love, came to the earth and took on our fleshly form and became a man that He might suffer and die on the cross to pay the penalty that we deserve.
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Colossians 1:13-14
But redemption does not stop there. Christ also rose from the dead to destroy the powers of darkness and evil in this world and bring those who give their lives to him into the Kingdom of Heaven. Sin has lost its power in our lives. The victory is in Jesus and his resurrection allows us to take on his righteousness and live in the freedom of joy in Christ alone. Because of the resurrection, we now can approach God and have a relationship with him and walk in the assurance that we are forgiven by our Lord Jesus Christ and that the kingdom of darkness has no power in our lives.
All of this was accomplished to display and magnify the glory of God on the earth and in the lives of broken, undeserving sinners. That we might look at the creator and say, “Wow! That is my God. He has redeemed me and He alone is worthy of my praise!”
This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
