People are often able to control who is in their “radar” so if that is their only focus of ministry there is the danger that ministry can become a comfort zone instead of living in dependence on Christ. Also, we see in scripture that God has a heart for the poor, as well as a desire for the church to be a light in the community. We want to take students out of their comfort zones and get them to cross into different age, economic, and ethnic arenas in order to minister to others. Often this opens their eyes to the poverty we have in our own back yard as well as giving them a chance to meet real needs of others who cannot return the favor.
Our desire is for you, the students, to do these things:
1. Leave your comfort zones in order to minister to others.
2. Minister to the poor in NWA in practical ways.

What Do I Do?
This one is actually one of the tougher ones to start, but is one of the most rewarding for students once it gets going. We want to go beyond just helping out at soup kitchens and get our students personally involved in the lives of other people who also need help. This is not too big for NES students as the following story illustrates:
“Over the summer a group of 8th-9th grade girls went to serve two houses in south Fayetteville. They painted the front porches of both house and visited with the residents. At one of the houses was an elderly man in his seventies who recently had two strokes. It was very difficult for him to get around, and it was obvious that he received few visitors.
The following week two of the girls decided that they wanted to cook him dinner. They spent the day cooking a full meal and that night went with two leaders and some other girls to deliver it. It was obvious that the man was so excited to have visitors in his humble abode. While there an eighth grade student ask if they could pray for him. They circled up, held hands, and began to pray. A leader open her eyes and noticed that tears were streaming down the man’s face.”
Bottom line we would love to see all of our groups adopt one person, family, home, etc that they could minister to during the year! What a light that would shine! It would be great to see our groups do yard work for them during the summer, or team up to minister to someone and help improve their home.
If you are interested please talk to your leader or us as staff and we will try to hook you up with a family and walk you through this.
